Joe is the Chief Executive Officer of the North Australian Indigenous Land and Sea Management Alliance, and has various interests in research relating to Indigenous rights to water, Indigenous Knowledge, carbon related industries and general caring for country. He was born and raised in Katherine in the Northern Territory. His heritage is Dagoman and Torres Strait (Moa Island).
During the first phase of TRaCK research, Joe was the theme leader for TRaCK’s body of research on Indigenous water use, and he also contributed to two synthesis and adoption year projects, Indigenous engagement, and the Facilitators’ Guide to Indigenous Water Planning.
For more than 15 years, Joe has worked with Indigenous communities across the Top End of the Northern Territory, and recently extending across north Australia, supporting communities develop local action to care for their country.
The majority of his time has been with Nunggubuyu, Ngandi, Mara, Wandarang, Alawa and Ngalakgan people in south-east Arnhem Land. Joe is a member of various Australian Government advisory committees relating to Caring for Country.
He has a BA in Natural Resource Management from the University of Sydney.
